Graduate Courses

Seneca Epistle

The Classics Faculty welcomes applications from well qualified candidates for postgraduate study. There are currently about 90 graduate students working in the Faculty across a diverse range of classical topics.

The Faculty of Classics offers two graduate degrees, a one-year master's course, the MPhil in Classics, and a doctoral degree, the three-year PhD. In addition, we welcome visiting graduate students.

Each graduate student is assigned a principal 'supervisor' to guide their research. There is a list of current Faculty members here which will give some indication of the range of research interests we can cover.

You can find information about the activities of each of the Faculty's 'caucuses' (subject area groups) here and a list of current seminars here to give you a sense of what is going on in the Faculty.

You can also read what some of our recent graduates have to say by looking at some graduate profiles.

How to Apply

Applications are made, electronically, through the Student Registry of the University. The University's Graduate Admissions website will guide you through the process. It also provides other information about graduate studies at Cambridge including a list of frequently asked questions, and answers.

Application Deadlines

For more details of funding schemes, including Faculty studentships and scholarships, please see the Graduate Funding in Classics page. It is very important that you tick the relevant funding box in GRADSAF Section B otherwise your application will not be considered for funding.

Please note the following deadlines for applications to commence either the MPhil or PhD course in 2013-14. These deadlines also apply for the submission of supporting documentation. Even if you are not seeking funding from Cambridge sources, you are strongly urged to meet the 11 January 2013 deadline if at all possible.
