-----------------------------------------------------------

Q. What does the classmark PAM mean?

This means that the item is a pamphlet. Pamphlets are published items too thin for the open shelf, and which are located in closed-access store. Please complete a request form (ask at the Issue Desk). Pamphlets are collected from store at 9am and 2pm on weekdays.

Q. What is a short loan?

The Short Loan collection is kept behind the Issue Desk. Short Loan books can be borrowed for two hours at a time, for use in the Library only. Short Loan books are renewable, unless requested by another reader. Fines on Short Loans are charged at 50 pence per hour overdue. Short Loans can be borrowed overnight during the last half-hour of public opening, and they are due back by 10.30am on the next working day.

  Q. How do I photocopy?

The Library has a black-and-white self-service photocopier, located in the alcove next to the fire exit. Photocopying cards cost £1 each and can be purchased from the adjacent card dispenser. Each card comes with 50 pence of credit and can be recharged with coins at the card dispenser.

 Photocopying with a card costs:
  • 6p per A4 sheet
  • 12p per A3 sheet

Cash copying is also available. It costs 10p per A4 sheet and 20p per A3 sheet.

Q.I can't find the book on the shelf

Check the Newton catalogue record. If under Holdings Information the status is 'Available' , it means that the book is not on loan, and should be in the Library. If the status is 'on loan'  you can recall the book: ask at the Issue Desk. If the location is: 'Classical Faculty Library Short Loan'  ask for it at the Issue Desk.

If you cannot find the book, please look on the reshelving trolleys. Failing this, someone else could be using it in the Library. Look for the book again on the next day, and if you cannot find it, let us know. We will search for it, and let you know the outcome.

Q. Can I borrow journals/ periodicals?

No. Journals and periodicals are for use in the Library only. An exception are journal supplements, which are borrowable.
