The Classics Faculty is pleased to announce that from 1 October 2012, it will be joined by Professor Andrew Wallace-Hadrill in his new role as a Director of Research in the Faculty.
Professor Wallace Hadrill as Master of Sidney Sussex College already holds an honorary affiliation with the Faculty. Since returning in 2009 to Cambridge from his post as Director of the British School at Rome, Andrew Wallace-Hadrill has retained his leading role in the Herculaneum Conservation Project, supported by the Packard Humanities Institute. After 10 years of successful conservation work, which has incidentally generated numerous new discoveries at Herculaneum, David Packard has decided to increase the scope of the project, including plans for a possible new museum complex on site. In order to free up his time for a more active role at Herculaneum, Andrew Wallace-Hadrill has decided to step down from his Mastership. Instead, the University has created a new role of Director of Research for him, to ensure that the Faculty benefits to the full both from his work at Herculaneum and his other research.
The Faculty looks forward to his closer engagement with its research activities, and to the closer links to the Packard Humanities Institute projects at Herculaneum.
