From Democrats to Kings

Michael Scott, Finley Research Fellow at Darwin College and the Classics Faculty, launched his new book on 1 October, "From Democrats to Kings: the brutal dawn of a new world from the downfall of Athens to the rise of Alexander the Great."

The book was featured by the Press Association and Michael was also featured on Radio 4's 'Today' programme debating the issues raised by the book with Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins.

The book spotlights the single lifetime that separated the ancient world in which democratic Athens was king from that controlled by the absolute monarch Alexander the Great and explains how the Greek world was turned on its head in such a short space of time.
