Perikles
Portrait head mounted on a square pillar. This Roman copy of a portrait of the fifth century BCE Athenian statesman and general was presumably made to decorate a villa at Tivoli, where it was found along with other herms. There are several versions of the same lost Greek original. There is an inscription on the lower part of the herm, missing from this cast, identifying the portrait as that of Perikles, son of Xanthioppos of Athens
