This sarcophagus relief depict a scene from myth: the abduction of beautiful sisters, Phoebe and Hilaeira, the daughters of Leucippos. On each of the short sides, we see one of them in a wedding veil, marrying her captor. Their husbands are the sons of Zeus, Castor and Pollux, identifiable by their pointed hats. Castor is killed by a rival suitor, but he and his brother are later granted immortality by their father. This reward makes their story suitable decoration for a funerary casket and monument.
