Closure while we install a new carpet

10th August 2017

The good news: we're getting a new carpet! The bad news: unfortunately, as it is such a big job, the Museum will need to close for the duration of the carpet fitting. We will close at 5pm on Friday 25th August and reopen at 10am on Tuesday 12th September. The dates may be subject to some change depending on how the work continues. Keep an eye on the website and our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.

MOCA Specials

7th March 2017

MOCA Specials Teaser.jpeg

From this March, explore the Museum of Classical Archaeology through the eyes of its staff and volunteers. Our MOCA Specials series challenges the Museum team to pick their favourite object in the collection, and tell us what makes it so special to them. Each week we'll post a new object on our Twitter and Facebook pages. Look out for labels around the Cast Gallery, and view the entire set as it grows here.

Baby Iris

27th February 2017

We're delighted to report the birth of baby Iris to our Curator Susanne Turner and look forward to welcoming her to Kids' Corner soon!

Dr Turner is now on maternity leave, and her post is being covered by Sophie Hawkins. Sophie joins us fresh from leading the Faculty of Classics' Mycenae Archive Project.

Aphrodite goes to Greenwich

3rd November 2016

Last month we sent our cast of the Frejus Aphrodite on a journey to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, where she can be seen as part of their fantastic temporary exhibition Emma Hamilton: Seduction and Celebrity. The exhibition runs from 3rd November 2016 to 17 April 2017.
