Research Enquiries

Research Enquiries

Do you want to know more about our objects? Anyone, including academic researchers and members of the public,  can contact us to find out more about objects in our collection, items in our archives, or the history of our Museum.

Research enquiries can be directed to our Curator, Dr Susanne Turner:

Email: smt41@cam.ac.ukTel. 01223 335153

Please note that we can only answer enquiries about objects held in our collection.

Valuations and Identifications

We regret that we are unable to offer a valuation or identification service. Some larger museums, such as the British Museum (pdf), offer an identification service by appointment in individual departments. However, please note that museums are bound by a strict Code of Ethics and you may be required to demonstrate appropriate collection history until at least 1970 and appropriate export documentation.

Privacy notice

The Museum of Classical Archaeology uses the personal information you provide to process your research request, to contact you about your request, and to maintain records about our collection. We use the third party WeTransfer.com to send you the images you have requested electronically. We report published works relating to the collection to the Arts Council and others. We do not add you to our mailing list.

We keep a record of your research enquiry to maintain information about our collection. With your consent, information you provide about our collection may be added to our research catalogues and may become accessible online. We will contact you before adding any information to our catalogue. If you would prefer us not to keep a record of your enquiry, you can let us know when you make your enquiry, or you can email us at museum@classics.cam.ac.uk. You may change your mind at any time by contacting us. We will treat your information with respect.

For more information about how we handle your personal information and your rights under data protection legislation, please see: http://www.information-compliance.admin.cam.ac.uk/data-protection/general-data.
