Our Archives
The Museum of Classical Archaeology is home to several collections of archival material, ranging from lantern slides and turn-of-the-century photographic collections to archaeological notebooks and site plans. Our archives are an important resource for research, learning and general interest, but they are not usually on display to the public.
The archives can be consulted by appointment only, subject to availability. If you would like to arrange a visit to examine material from the archives, please contact our Curator to discuss your needs and book an appointment at least one week in advance:

Squeezes
A collection of c.5000 paper squeezes, or paper imprints, of Greek and Roman inscriptions. We are currently working on reboxing and re-cataloguing these items.
The Bean Archive
A collection of photographs, letters and documents relating to the travels through Turkey of archaeologist and writer George E. Bean.

The Mitford Archive
A collection of papers and squeezes relating to the research of Terence B. Mitford.
The Museum Archives
A collection of papers relating to the Museum of Classical Archaeology since it became independent of the Fitzwilliam Museum with its own governance committee in 1911. Papers relating to the collection prior to this date are still housed at the Fitzwilliam.
The Museum also holds other archives which are not listed here.
