Finding Forgeries: turquoise and white text

Finding Forgeries

A temporary display curated by Alina Kozlovski

Discover some of the forgeries the Museum of Classical Archaeology keeps in its collection! In a setting like a Cast Gallery, where most things on display are overtly ‘fake’, forgeries occupy an interesting space. Like the plaster casts, they encourage us to ask what authenticity means and how that is decided. Investigate some of the methods that archaeologists and art historians have used to cast doubt on these objects' origins and see if you can spot some of the fakes yourself!

Curated by Alina Kozlovski. Find out more about the project from Alina over at Res Gerendae, the Classics graduate student blog.

Summer temperatures

We realise the summer has been something of a washout so far - but please note that if the sun is shining, our Cast Gallery (with its glass roof) can get very warm.
