Athena SWAN is the national kitemark for gender equality in universities and similar organisations. You can find out more about it here (http://www.ecu.ac.uk/equality-charters/athena-swan/). Originally established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine, Advance HE’s Athena SWAN Charter was expanded in 2015 to include those in the arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law, colleagues in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students. The charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.The Faculty of Classics was awarded a Bronze award in May 2021. The Faculty Board of Classics has tasked its Equalities, Diversity & Inclusivity Committee with implementing the actions arising from our application.
