Welcome to the Faculty of Classics Library and Archives.

The Library supports the research of senior members, postgraduates, official visitors and undergraduates of the University of Cambridge.

The Archives hold records connected to the work of Classics Faculty staff and scholars. For more information see "about the Archives".  

Library Opening Hours/Closures (updated 22 April 2025)

The Library is open Monday to Friday 10-4 in the vacation.

The Library is open 9-6 Monday to Friday and on Saturdays 2-5 (depending on staffing) in Full term.

 

University Term Dates

If the library needs to close at short notice, we will update the website so please check before visiting.  

See below for available services. Staff are available via  Monday to Fridays 9 to 5.  

Library Services on offer :

Study Space and Borrowing: 

People are welcome to sit anywhere they like; there are no reservations. 

If you require material from closed stacks (indicated on iDiscover) please request before 4.00 Monday to Friday. Material cannot be fetched at weekends.

If you cannot visit the library to borrow, please email library@classics.cam.ac.uk with details of the books you require and the person who will be collecting them for you and we will arrange for the items to be issued to you.

Any problems please contact library@classics.cam.ac.uk.  

Returns:

Books may be returned to the library and discharged via the self-issue/return machine. Books may also be returned via the Sidgwick Book return boxes by Lady Mitchell Hall and near the English Faculty when the library is closed. Please note that there may be a delay in books returned via the sidgboxes being removed from your borrowing record.  

Scan and Deliver:

Current staff and students requiring one chapter or article from a book/journal may request a scan to be emailed to them. Details available on the UL website, and please fill in the form for books held at Classics too.
