Venus in the Shrubbery: Curating Statues and Creating Landscapes

For the 18th-century intellectual, fresh from the Grand Tour, statues added meaning and ideology to a landscape. Informed choices allowed owners to display their erudition (and wealth) to visitors, through careful placement of a Venus here or an Apollo there.
