KS1: Myths and Storytelling

A Myth and Storytelling session, facilitated by our Education and Outreach Coordinator, has been designed to support the KS1 curriculum, to inspire your students and to enhance their sense of the world around them. We can work with you to plan this session around the needs of your class.

For a 60-minute session facilitated by us, we suggest the following breakdown:

  • Whole class session in Bay C: introducing the idea of myths and Greek gods and goddesses, our Education and Outreach Coordinator will lead an interactive story session focusing on the myth of Athena and Arachne. During this session the class will have a chance to handle replica artefacts and create a collaborative drawing. (30 minutes)
  • Group work in various Bays, guided by your adult leaders: this part of the session encourages students to explore the Museum using the Key Stage 1 Worksheets. By splitting into groups working in different parts of the Museum, students can discover our statues and create their own mythological story boards. The worksheets for this will be provided by us and we'll help to model how your students might use them to spark their creativity. (20 minutes)
  • Whole class session back together in Bay C: our Museum and Education Coordinator will bring you back together again before you leave to answer any questions the students may have. (10 minutes)

This session is not available in a self-led format.

Please note: nudity is a feature of classical sculpture and there is no avoiding it in our Cast Gallery. Our Education and Outreach Coordinator will address the nakedness on display in an age-appropriate way with your students during your session.
