Research
Sólveig is a classicist and a classical linguist who specialises in sociolinguistic approaches to Latin texts and on language variation and change in Latin more generally. Her doctoral research (funded by the Gates Cambridge Trust) examined sociolinguistic variation in the Ciceronian epistolary corpora, with a particular focus on Cicero᾽s correspondents. For her research fellowship, Sólveig will continue working on Latin sociolinguistics, now from the perspective of Roman attitudes to language variation. She has additional research interests in the classical and Latin grammatical tradition, especially in Iceland and Scandinavia.
Teaching and supervision
Sólveig has taught and supervised a range of topics in Classics and Linguistics for the Faculty of Classics, the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics, and for a variety of colleges at the University of Cambridge. This includes classical and comparative linguistics, Latin and Greek languages and literatures, as well as language variation and change.
