Research

Bill works at the interface of Latin literature and the environmental humanities. He is broadly interested in ways that renewed attention to plants, animals, the land, and other nonhuman bodies can enrich our appreciation of ancient literature and culture.

He is currently working on a monograph based on his PhD thesis, Environmental Change in Ovid’s Poetry. It was jointly funded by the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership and Trinity College, Cambridge.

His next project, The Roman Rubbish Heap, seeks to understand the significance of waste management in Latin literature.
