A one-day symposium on Greek theatre, with theatre professionals and academics

As usual, the Cambridge Greek Play week will end with a symposium on Sunday, bringing together theatre practitioners and academics to discuss a range of issues about Greek theatre.

Tickets are £10; FREE concessions to Cambridge University students.

Numbers are limited, so please reserve in advance. Tickets are available from Cambridge Arts Theatre Box Office, in person or by telephone on 01223 503333, Monday-Saturday, noon-8pm. Any remaining tickets will be available on the door immediately before the event.

10.30 – 12.00 ‘Comedy and Tragedy together, in antiquity and now’ 

with Oliver Taplin (Oxford), Peter Meineck (NYU) and Rosie Wyles (King’s College London). Chair: Paul Cartledge (Cambridge)

12.00 – 1.30 Lunch break

1.30 – 3.00 ‘Performance histories: ideas of comedy and tragedy in the nineteenth century’

with Fiona Macintosh (APGRD, Oxford), Edith Hall (King’s College London) and Jennifer Wallace (Cambridge). Chair: Simon Goldhill (Cambridge)

3.00 Coffee/tea

3.30 – 5.00 Panel 3: ‘The challenges of practice’

with Helen Eastman and Alex Silverman (2013 Prometheus/Frogs), Zoe Svendsen (Cambridge), Helen Slaney and Henry Stead (Prometheus, Sheffest 2012). Chair: Adrian Poole (Cambridge)

 

Each panel will consist of short talks by the speakers followed by a chaired discussion.
